The product for this housing development was for a lower income market and therefore the construction costs were extremely important consideration when we undertook the design. To reduce maintenance and build complexity most of the material used was a face brick punctuated by elements of simple white painted plaster. Added to this was strong connections to landscaped spaces for residents to breath and enjoy the outdoors.
To complete the design, we used the opportunity to be playful with the roof element and to ensure that the proportions of the design were complimented by this element. We believe that a reduced product cost should not discriminate a person’s right to live in a well-designed environment.
