26 Baker Street

26 Baker Street

The building is a reaction to the harshness of the nearby buildings.  There are many hard edges and private, unwelcoming spaces, at street level surrounding the site.  Due to the building’s location within the fast-developing environment, it acts as a gateway to the suburb.  The design of the building is that it has been lifted off the street level, which allows the street activity to be pulled into the site, thus, blurring the lines between public and private spaces.

The form of the building stands in stark contrast to surrounding buildings. The clean lines of the buildings that encircle the square are disrupted by a floating elemental/crystalline form that provides an anchor building to the western boundary of the park.
