In order to give House Moosa a modern feel, the interior spaces were completely gutted and an open plan design created. With the removal of load-bearing walls, the new open plan structure needed additional underpinning. In a creative engineering twist, Urban Habitat Build added steel beams, cased in brickwork, to the first-floor ceiling to bear the weight of the second storey. These were later painted white and now give the first-floor ceiling an unusual, chic box-look. The property’s entrance was redesigned and a slatted timber screen added above the doorway. Urban Habit Architecture and Build created a modernised, fresh house for House Moosa’s owners.
