The Durban branch of Boogertman + Partners Architects approached Urban Habitat Architecture to assist in the renovation of an existing restaurant. Hooters Port Elizabeth is the first of the South African branches to comply with this American franchise’s standards.
Renovation work is often synonymous with surprise. As the building’s internal structure is slowly revealed, unexpected complications tend to arise, and this project proved no different. Rising to the challenge, with comprehensive drawings in hand, and after numerous phone calls and emails, the new Hooters restaurant now conforms with the design aesthetics and standards of American Hooters’ branches, the first in South Africa to do so. After extensive building alterations, the new home of Hooters Port Elizabeth was ready for interior transformation. Interiors were gutted and redesigned by Urban Habitat. Shortly after the renovation was completed, Hooters Port Elizabeth opened its doors to the public – they have yet to leave.
